First Buy Local Sweepstakes Generates Large Response
September 15, 2008—When Vision Atascadero decided to run the first Buy Local Sweepstakes, the big question was: will local residents respond by supporting local Atascadero businesses?
The results are in and the answer is a resounding YES! The 57 participating businesses received more than 1600 entries; Spencer’s alone collected 304 entry forms.
Vision Atascadero spokesman Bruce Bevans commented, "The response far
exceeded our hopes for a sweepstakes like this. The citizens really came
out to support Buy Local businesses throughout Atascadero." According to Bevans, Vision Atascadero will announce the winners of one $500 and five $100 shopping sprees shortly.
The Buy Local Sweepstakes ran throughout the month of August to focus attention on businesses that return more to our community by being locally owned and operated. Vision Atascadero's Buy Local program is dedicated to improving the business climate in Atascadero from the ground up. The organization invites all locally owned and operated businesses to participate in the program at no cost to them.
Vision Atascadero encourages Atascadero residents to look for the acorn logo when they shop. Their Web site, www.VisionAtascadero.com, offers more information about Buy Local Business, Buy Local Art, and other Vision Atascadero programs.
Buy Local - Sweepstakes August 2008
 Vision Atascadero is sponsoring a Buy Local Sweepstakes to help promote our local economy and encourage residents to become familiar with the variety of businesses in Atascadero.
What Are The Prizes?
Vision Atascadero will offer a top prize of $500 and five second prizes of $100 each. The prizes will consist of vouchers to purchase goods in one or more of the Vision Atascadero Buy Local businesses that are participating in this promotion.
How/Where To Enter?
To enter the sweepstakes, a person must visit one or more of the participating Buy Local businesses during the month of August and sign up on the entry form and then deposit that form in the Buy Local Sweepstakes box at the business.
Please note: Participants may enter only once at each business, but may sign up at as many businesses as they like. No purchase is necessary.

Who Can Enter?
Anyone, Atascadero resident or not, may enter the Sweepstakes. If a winner is a minor, that winner must also provide a signed parental or guardian consent form, provided by the sponsor (see rules below).
When Is The Sweepstakes?
The Sweepstakes runs August 1-31, 2008 and prizes will be awarded on or about September 3, 2008.
OFFICIAL RULES: Vision Atascadero Buy Local Sweepstakes
1. Introduction: Vision Atascadero is sponsoring a Buy Local sweepstakes
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
2. Board members of Vision Atascadero and their relatives (defined as parents, spouses, children, grandparents) are NOT eligible.
3. Timing: Sweepstakes begins on August 1, 2008 and ends on August 31, 2008. Entries must be received by a participating merchant by close of business on the last day of the Sweepstakes.
4. How to Enter: Entry forms are available at participating Buy Local merchants throughout Atascadero. ONE AND ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON MAY BE MADE AT EACH PARTICIPATING BUSINESS. For a complete list of participating Buy Local merchants, visit www.visionatascadero.com and click on Buy Local merchants.
5. Drawing: This sweepstakes will have (6) six drawings and (6) six winners. Only one prize will be allowed per entrant. The entrants selected as winners must comply with all terms and conditions set forth in these Official Rules. Winning is contingent upon fulfilling all such requirements. Winners will be selected in a random drawing from all entries received on or before the entry deadline. The drawing will be conducted on or about September 3, 2008, by the Sponsor, whose decision is final and binding in all matters relating to the Sweepstakes. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. The winners will be notified by phone on or about September 3, 2008. If a winner cannot be contacted within fourteen (14) days after the first attempt to contact such winner, an alternate entrant will be selected in his or her place, at random, from all entries received.
6. Prizes: The following prizes will be awarded:
FIRST PRIZE: a $500 shopping spree certificate that can be redeemed at one or more participating Buy Local merchants;
SECOND PRIZES: five (5) $100 shopping spree certificates that can be redeemed at one or more participating Buy Local merchants.
TOTAL RETAIL VALUE OF ALL PRIZES INCLUDING TAX IS $1000. Sponsors are not responsible for lost or mutilated certificates and none will be replaced. Prizes are nontransferable and must be accepted as awarded. No cash or other substitution may be made for any portion of a prize.
7. Other Terms and Conditions: Winners will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and a Publicity Release, within fourteen (14) days of notification, failing which the potential winner will be disqualified and another winner selected at random from the remaining eligible entries in the place of the disqualified person. IF A WINNER IS A MINOR, that winner must also provide a signed parental or guardian consent form, provided by the sponsor, within fourteen (14) days of notification attempt. Failure of the minor to return the guardian consent form will result in the forfeiture of prize and selection of an alternate winner, who will be chosen at random from the remaining eligible entries. By accepting the prize, the winner agrees that the Sponsor and those acting under the Sponsor’s authority may use the winner's name and picture/portrait likeness for promotional purposes without further consideration. Vision Atascadero shall have no liability to any winner arising from the winner's acceptance and use of any prize certificate. Winners are responsible for all taxes associated with their prizes. Subject to all federal, state and local laws: Void where prohibited.
